Circular Cities Asia is proud to present this dialogue session with some of the top teams from ClimateLaunchpad 2020, the world's largest green business competition. 

Cassetex - founded in 2020 as a project of Advanced Dynamics, is a solar powered battery swapping service for last-mile transport in Bangladesh. The founders of this project are passionately involved in reducing the climate impact of transportation. There are more than 1.5 million electric last-mile vehicles providing cargo and passenger services, including the popular 3-wheeler called “auto or easy-bike”. While they have made small towns cleaner and transport more affordable, the burden on the fossil-fuel national electricity grid is increasingly unmanageable. The Cassetex service provides fully solar powered battery cassettes, that can be swapped multiple times a day. We are planning to make last mile transport completely grid-independent and self-sustainable, with the opportunity to save more than 0.47 megaton CO2 per year. In the next 5 years, we plan to implement more than 60,000 such solar swapping stations across Bangladesh.

ElevenStore - We are a group of three young women from the Institute for Frontier Materials at Deakin University working on the development of sodium ion batteries (NIBs).  Our team, known as ElevenStore (a reference to sodium’s atomic number of 11 and the fact that we want to store energy) consists of Karolina Biernacka, Faezeh Makhlooghiazad, Jenny Sun. We believe that sodium batteries with their safer and cheaper features can open up a new market for light electric vehicles in Southeast Asia. Our goal is not only to spin out a technology that has the ability to change millions of lives while also substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also to inspire and empower other young woman to actively pursue their dreams.
